The Journey to Clarity in 2026
Life can feel incredibly busy, especially when balancing parenthood and running a creative business.
For me, Becky Groves of Rebsey Art Studio, 2026 became a year of intentional change.
I realised my business was not separate from my family life. Instead, the two needed to work together.
For a long time, I felt caught in a constant juggling act. No matter how much I did, it often felt like I was falling short in one area or the other.
That realisation led to an important decision.
I chose to rebuild my business with family at its heart.
Separating Studio Work from Curated Work
A key part of this journey involved separating my studio work from my curated work.
Studio work is rooted in the simple joy of creating. It is the art that comes naturally and reflects what matters most to me.
Many pieces draw inspiration from the natural world around me. They provide opportunities to experiment, explore new ideas and develop my artistic voice.
Creative freedom plays an important role in this process. Through it, I can reconnect with the reasons I fell in love with art in the first place.
Curated work serves a different purpose.
It includes projects and commissions that align with my brand and artistic vision. Unlike studio work, these pieces often involve more planning, structure and marketing.
Creating a clear distinction between the two brought greater balance to my business.
Each area could receive the attention it deserved without competing for my time or energy.
As a result, my creative process became more intentional. It also helped me understand where my energy could have the greatest impact.
Building a Sustainable Business Model
The ultimate goal was to build a sustainable creative business.
Financial support for my family was an important part of that vision.
Equally important was creating something that nourished my spirit and gave me the flexibility to be present with the people who matter most.
Achieving that balance required a different approach.
Rather than competing with family life, I wanted my business to work alongside it.
That shift helped create a stronger foundation for both my family and my creative work.
This shift involved several key considerations:
- Realistic goal setting
Setting achievable targets for both income and creative output. I also learned to accept that peak productivity may look different at different stages of life.
- Time blocking and boundaries
Creating dedicated time for studio work, family life and administrative tasks. Clear boundaries reduce the mental load that comes from constantly switching between roles.
- Prioritising wellbeing
Recognising that my wellbeing supports both my creativity and my family life. This includes rest, creative recharge and regular self care.
- Streamlining operations
Looking for ways to work more efficiently through automation, outsourcing or simplifying existing processes.
Embracing Intentional Living
This entire process has been a journey towards living with greater intention.
Each step has involved making conscious choices that reflect my values and priorities.
As both an artist and a parent, I want to create work that inspires and connects with others. Equally important is building a life that feels meaningful rather than constantly busy.
Finding that balance has not happened overnight.
Through clearer decisions and a focus on sustainable growth, I have discovered a calmer way to navigate the challenges of running a creative business alongside family life.
Learning and adapting remain part of the journey. Even so, the sense of peace and fulfilment that comes from living more intentionally has made every step worthwhile.
