Why I Build Backup Systems as an AuDHD Business Owner

Blog written by: Kerise Myers

Why I Do Not Rely on One AI Tool

I use AI tools every day in my business. They support my communication, structure and clarity.

I have used ChatGPT from the beginning. It understands my tone and how I think.

It literally helps me regulate when my brain feels overloaded and supports my workflow in real time.

That means I cannot afford sudden disruption, even when platforms sometimes go down without warning.

When that happens, I lose access mid task.

I simply cannot draft emails, polish communication or continue important work properly.

For some people, that may feel inconvenient, but, for me personally, I become stressed and emotionally dysregulated.

As an AuDHDer and how my brain personally works doesn’t handle sudden change very well.

My nervous system reacts quickly to disruption. So, this is why I build backup systems to protect my stability.

I don’t build them because I dislike a platform, they are built because I understand risk.

Self employed founders like myself must protect their infrastructure. Digital tools form part of that infrastructure.

As a result, if I relied on one system, I create unnecessary vulnerability.

So for me, I choose stability over loyalty to one tool.

How Backup Systems Protect Regulation

Digital disruption does not only affect productivity. It affects regulation.

Neurodivergent founders often rely on structure to stay balanced.

When tools fail, structure disappears. That loss can feel bigger than the task itself.

I can become very stressed quickly and for me, that means overwhelm.

It can mean I end up shutting down or having difficulty communicating with others clearly.

As I am working for myself, things look very different for me.

I don’t have an IT department so I have to solve problems in real time.

Building backup systems reduces that pressure I may feel and gives me options instead of panic.

As a result, I can protect my workflow and my nervous system.

Backup planning is not about distrust in a tool, it’s more about access needs and sustainability.

Neurodivergent business owners deserve that stability as much as everyone else.

We deserve systems that support how our brains function and resilience doesn’t happen by accident.

It happens by design.

Designing Stability as a Neurodivergent Founder

When I run a business as a neurodivergent founder, this requires deep self awareness.

Disruption affects more than productivity. My regulation and clarity gets directly impacted.

I design systems around how my brain functions and that structure protects both my wellbeing and performance.

Backup planning strengthens my leadership. Resilient systems reduce operational risk.

Reliable infrastructure supports my consistent communication and preparation reflects my foresight and responsibility.

I build stability into my workflow intentionally.

As a neurodivergent entrepreneur, I personally need environments that support my emotional regulation.

Other neurodivergent entrepreneurs like me create sustainable businesses through intentional design.

That design shapes confident and steady leadership.

So, I personally choose to lead with structure, and not assumption.
